Getting Started
Is Maponica free?
Yes, completely free. No hidden fees, no premium tiers, no paywalls. Everyone gets the full experience, always.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Just open a room, share the 6-digit code with friends, and start playing. No sign-up, no email, no downloads.
How do I start a game?
Go to CityGuesser, click 'Create Room', configure your settings (rounds, time limit, regions), and share the room code. Players join by entering the code on the homepage.
What devices and browsers work?
Maponica works in any modern browser: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge. Desktop, tablet, phone, Chromebook. No app install needed.
Gameplay
How does a round work?
Everyone watches the same walking tour video together and explores the streets to figure out where they are. Place a pin on the map, and when the timer runs out, guesses are revealed and scored based on distance from the actual location.
How does scoring work?
The closer your guess to the actual location, the more points you earn (up to 5,000 per round). Fast guesses get a time bonus up to 1.25x. After all rounds, the player with the most total points wins.
How many players can join a game?
Rooms support up to 250 players. Perfect for classrooms, company events, or large friend groups. Everyone plays in real-time together.
Can I play solo?
Yes. Create a room and start the game alone. You get the same videos, scoring, and feedback. Great way to practice your geography skills.
Where do the videos come from?
Real walking tour footage from around the world. You'll explore actual streets from Tokyo to Buenos Aires, from small villages to major cities. The library is continuously growing.
What Makes Maponica Unique
What makes Maponica unique?
Maponica is built for playing together. It uses real walking tour videos instead of static street imagery, so it feels more like exploring a city than studying a map. Up to 250 players in real-time, completely free, ideal for classrooms, team events, and friend groups. See how we compare in our guide to free GeoGuessr alternatives.

Can I use Maponica in my classroom?

Future & Trust
Will Maponica always be free?
The core game will always be free. We may add optional cosmetics or premium features later, but the full gameplay experience (creating rooms, playing with friends, all videos) stays free forever.
Will there be user accounts and leaderboards?
Yes, both are planned. Accounts will let you track your stats, climb leaderboards, and keep a play history. Guest mode (no account) will always remain available.
What other games are planned?
Maponica is a geo-gaming platform and CityGuesser is just the first game. Flag Guesser, image-based quizzes, geography trivia, and tournament modes are all on the roadmap.
